Private Dwyer won this honour for conspicuous bravery on Hill 60, 20th April 1915. As his trench was being heavily assailed by German bomb throwers he clambered on t the parapet, and so persistently bombed the enemy that they had to retire. He also showed great devotion by leaving his trench under fire to help wounded comrades.
